Just realized I was tanking my score by paying my card right after a big purchase.
My credit union in Boise told me to let the statement close with a balance, even if it's just $20, because they report zero usage otherwise. Anyone else get this advice from their bank?

My buddy in Phoenix did that and his score jumped 30 points, just like @ivan_murphy80 said.

Works like a charm, same here.

Honestly that sounds like way too much work for a few points. My score's fine and I just pay the whole thing off as soon as the charge posts.

Read an article last year that said the exact same thing. It explained how credit bureaus want to see you using credit, not just having it. If your statement always says zero, it looks like you aren't using the card at all. My strategy now is to let one small charge hit the statement, then pay it off in full by the due date. That way they report some usage but I never pay interest. It made a real difference for my score.
