Last week I got denied for a credit card I thought was a sure thing

I've always been the type to chase rewards cards and thought my 750 score was good enough for anything. Then Capital One turned me down for their Savor card because of a 2-year-old late payment on a store card I forgot about. That rejection made me actually pull my full credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com for the first time. I found two small medical collections I never knew about, one for $67 and another for $112. Getting those removed took a week of calls but it bumped me up to 780. Has anyone else had a denial expose hidden stuff on your report?

oh man, that's rough but kind of a blessing in disguise? my buddy Matt got denied for a mortgage pre-approval and found out there was a random $35 parking ticket from three states ago he never paid. turned his whole credit game around after that.

@annajenkins I get what you're saying, but I gotta disagree a little. A random parking ticket from three states ago is exactly the kind of stupid thing that shouldn't mess up your whole life. It's more a sign the system is broken than a blessing. Matt got lucky he found out, sure, but most people just get blindsided by stuff like that. Happy for him though, for real.

Has anyone checked if those medical collections were even legit, or did they just show up because a billing office mixed up your name with someone else's? That happened to my cousin and the hospital had to pay to fix their own mistake.
