Serious question, why did nobody warn me about authorized user timing?
I added my brother to my card 3 months ago thinking it'd boost his score right away, but the credit bureaus only report the added account once his statement closed, so the real jump didn't show up until 6 weeks later, has anyone else dealt with that lag?
The lag is REAL because each bureau runs on its own schedule, so Experian might update before Equifax and TransUnion. That 6 week window is just the average, and if your brother's statement closes on a weird day it can stretch even longer. Best move is to just plan for a two month buffer before expecting any visible score movement.
Actually the bureaus dont run "their own schedule" exactly. They all wait on the lender to report, not some random internal clock. If your brother's card reports on the 3rd and Experian processes it that night while Equifax waits till the 10th, that's just how the creditor sends it out, not the bureaus being lazy. The bigger lag usually comes from the creditor only sending updates once a month, and some smaller banks straight up forget to report for a cycle or two. So the 6 week window is more about inconsistent reporting cycles than bureaus doing their own thing.
