TIL my credit utilization was the whole problem, not my late payments
I spent 2 years obsessing over payment history, checking for missed due dates every week. Turned out I had one card at 85% utilization and it was dragging my score down 60 points. Paid it down to 30% last month and my score jumped from 640 to 705. Why does nobody mention utilization as the biggest lever? Has anyone else found this after years of stressing the wrong thing?
DUDE same thing happened to me! I freaked over one late payment for a YEAR, then found out my two cards at 75% combined were killing me more than that ever did. Paid em down and got a 55 point boost in like a month, it's wild how nobody talks about that.
Is it just me or does it feel like nobody ever warns you about the credit card balance thing until it's already wrecked your score? Tbh I had the exact same wake up call, my cards were sitting around 80% combined and I was stressing over a single $30 medical bill that went to collections. Once I got the balances under 30%, my score jumped 60 points in six weeks, which was way more than fixing the collections notice ever did. It's honestly backwards how much time I wasted panicking about the wrong thing.
