My home network was a mess until I switched from a single password to a guest network

For years I just gave everyone my main Wi-Fi password when they visited, which meant like 20 random phones and laptops were on my network. Last week my smart lights started acting weird and I realized my nephew's friend was probably messing with stuff. I set up a separate guest network with a different password in about 10 minutes using my router's app. Now visitors get internet but can't see any of my other devices, and everything works perfectly again. Anyone else set up a guest network after a weird tech issue?

Yeah wade250 saying it's a basic security thing is so true. I used to think it was just being picky until my roommate's sketchy cousin kept trying to cast weird stuff to my tv. Setting up the guest network took like two minutes and saved me so much hassle lol

Seriously, it's not just about stopping people from messing with your lights. A guest network is a basic security thing. I mean, you have no idea what's on a visitor's phone, it could have malware that tries to spread on your network. Keeping all those random devices separate just makes sense, idk why more routers don't have it turned on by default. It's one of those things you don't think about until something goes wrong.
