Finally matched with someone who laughed at my bread puns after 2 years of crickets

I have been on and off Hinge for about 2 years now, mostly just getting ghosted or weird one-word replies. But last Tuesday I matched with this girl named Sarah who actually read my whole profile, not just my photos. My profile has this dumb joke about how I am gluten intolerant but still date bread because I am a rebel. She messaged me first and said her favorite bread is sourdough and asked if that was a dealbreaker. We ended up texting for like 3 hours that night about bakery conspiracies and bad pizza toppings. It felt surreal because normally I get left on read after saying hi. Has anyone else had a random pun break the ice and lead to a real conversation? I am curious if dumb humor works better than serious bios.

Wait hold on, you're telling me 40 PERCENT more matches for jokes?! That is INSANE. I read the same study but I swear I thought it was more like 20 percent. Honestly that makes me feel way better about all the dumb stuff I put on my profile. I mean I've been sitting here thinking I was being too silly and scaring off normal people but apparently being weird pays off. Also Sarah sounds like a keeper - anyone who starts off with sourdough loyalty AND bakery conspiracies gets it.

I read a study that said humor crushes serious bios by 40 percent so you did well man.

That 40% number is actually from a study by the dating app Hinge back in 2019. They looked at thousands of profiles and found that bios with a joke or a lighthearted line got way more right swipes than the ones listing job titles and travel goals. I'd say it makes sense because humor shows confidence and that you dont take yourself too seriously. Just gotta make sure the joke actually lands and isnt too weird for a first impression.
