A deepfake video of my aunt made me stop sharing family posts
I saw a video online that showed my aunt saying crazy stuff. It looked just like her, but she never said those things. That was my first real brush with a deepfake. I used to share any fun clip from family events without a second thought. Now I always ask if it's real before hitting share. Last week, I caught a fake video before it spread in our family chat. It's scary how easy it is to make us doubt what we see.

Just read that deepfake detection tools are struggling to keep up, which is scary.

Should we really be that worried?

Yeah, that's the real worry, @bennett.harper. I saw a local politician try that "it's a deepfake" defense last year, and it worked for a while. The tools failing just makes that excuse stronger for everyone.

It's becoming a weird social problem beyond just trust. I've seen people start to claim real videos of them are deepfakes to get out of trouble, using our new doubt as a shield. That blurring between real and fake excuses real bad behavior.
