Update: I was wrong about that Tom Cruise deepfake from 2021

My buddy kept saying the Tom Cruise deepfake vids were the start of something big and I told him they'd never fool anyone outside tech circles. Last week my mom sent me a group text going 'is Tom really doing his own stunts in that new clip?' and I realized she bought it completely. Anyone else have a family member fall for an older deepfake?

Laid out the whole situation for my mom over the phone and she still wasn't convinced. She said 'well he looks too real to be fake' which is basically the whole problem. I had to send her a side by side comparison of the real Tom and the deepfake Tom before she finally admitted she couldn't tell them apart either. Now I'm worried she'll start believing any weird video I send her. Guess that means I can't prank her with that Nicolas Cage deepfake compilation anymore.

Man that's exactly what happened with my dad, had to pull up a whole article to get him to believe it.
