My digital art display crashed right before a client meeting last Friday

I had a big showcase for a local restaurant owner who wanted to see my landscape pieces on a big screen. Right as I pulled up the slideshow on my tablet, the whole thing froze and then went black. Turns out the memory card was corrupt and I lost about 40 finished works. Has anyone else had a critical storage failure ruin a presentation?

Wait, were you able to recover any of those from a backup or are they just gone?

Maybe with some of the photos, there was an old hard drive I had stuffed in a drawer... I finally dug it out but the thing made a clicking noise when I plugged it in. My nephew said that's usually not a good sign for getting data off of it.

Yeah that clicking noise is basically the drive screaming for help! But honestly I think the real problem here is how we treat our hardware for these critical presentations. Most people focus on backing up files but nobody talks about the physical condition of the device itself. Like did you test the tablet or memory card before the big moment? I always run a quick file check and restart my whole setup an hour before any client sees it. Could be worth doing that next time.
