Went from hating digital-only galleries to curating one in 3 weeks

I used to trash online showcases as lazy, just people dumping layers onto a static page. Then a friend in Portland invited me to submit to her monthly browser-based exhibit, and the way she sequenced pieces with scroll pacing and hidden easter eggs completely won me over. Now I'm building my own for a small artist collective, but I still think 90% of digital showcases are just sliders with zero thought. What made you switch sides, or what keeps you skeptical?

Ugh, I feel this so hard! The trick that flipped it for me was treating the scroll like a film edit, not a PDF. I started storyboarding every section, like deciding what lands on the first scroll vs what needs a click to unlock, and honestly it changes everything. Also, play with timing, a 0.5 second fade on a hover can feel totally different than a snap change, and that little detail is what separates a real exhibit from a glorified slideshow. If you want a quick win, add a hidden mouse trail or a keyboard shortcut that reveals an artist note, people go nuts for that stuff and it makes the whole thing feel alive.
