Why does nobody talk about how Facebook ads are getting worse?
I run a small roofing company here in Cleveland and I've been using Facebook ads for the last 3 years to get leads. I put about $500 a month into them. But over the last 6 months, the quality of leads has dropped like crazy. I'm getting way more people clicking who just want a quote and never pick up the phone. I switched to Nextdoor ads instead and for $200 less I'm actually getting real homeowners who call me back same day. Has anyone else noticed Facebook ads turning into junk for local service businesses? Or am I doing something wrong with my targeting?

You said you switched to Nextdoor and got better results for less money. That really made me stop and think because I used to be one of those people who swore Facebook was the ONLY way to reach customers locally. I was spending about $400 a month on Facebook for my handyman service and getting the same junk leads you described. People asking for free estimates who just ghost you. I finally tried Nextdoor three months ago and now I'm getting actual customers who book within a week. It completely changed my mind about where to put my ad money.

What specific type of Nextdoor posts or ads got you the best response? I tried a few different approaches but still figuring out what actually works over there.

Read something the other day from a marketing guy who said Facebook's algorithm started favoring big brands over small local guys. Made sense to me when I thought about it. All the leads I get now are people who click out of curiosity not because they need a roof. My guess is Facebook changed how they show ads to keep people on the platform longer. Nextdoor feels more like word of mouth where people are actually looking for someone to hire.
