Update: Had my disability hearing in Des Moines last week and a lady from the SSA gave me a tip that saved my case
I was waiting in the hallway outside Room 204, super nervous, and this older woman who worked there leaned over and said 'make sure you mention how your condition affects your daily routine, not just your symptoms.' I told them I can't stand long enough to cook a meal or even shower without sitting down. The judge actually wrote that down. Has anyone else gotten a random helpful tip from a stranger during their appeal process?

I got the exact same tip from a security guard at the Des Moines building waiting for the elevator. He said judges hear the same medical stuff all day but they remember when you say you can't brush your teeth because your hands shake. I told them I haven't sat on my couch in six months because I can't get back up without help. The judge stopped typing and looked right at me when I said that. Seriously that little piece of advice probably won my whole case.

Jumped right into reading this and yeah, I got a similar tip from a janitor at my hearing in St. Louis. He said the judge doesn't care about your diagnosis list but wants to know what you can't do anymore. I told them I can't tie my own shoes without setting a timer for breaks and that got a note from the judge too. Maybe it's just me but that kind of real talk is way easier to mess up than remembering medical terms. At least I didn't trip over a chair trying to show them how I drop things, that would've been my luck.
