Worst week of my appeal process hit after 14 months of waiting
Last Tuesday I got a denial letter for my SSDI appeal saying my medical records from 2022 weren't enough, even though my condition got way worse since then. My lawyer said this happens a lot with fibromyalgia cases. Has anyone else had to get a second opinion doctor mid-appeal just to fight a denial?

Honestly I'm gonna push back here. If you already had 14 months to gather records and your lawyer is blaming it on fibromyalgia maybe the denial means something. My cousin had fibro too and she just kept getting second opinions hoping one would give her what she wanted but it just wasted more time. Sometimes the system is actually saying your evidence is weak and another doctor won't magically fix that if your own records don't show enough. Maybe focus on what the denial letter actually said instead of assuming the system is wrong.

My cousin's denial letter actually had a specific code in the appendix about "failure to document a longitudinal treatment history" which her lawyer never caught until the 3rd appeal... turned out her primary care notes only showed 4 visits in 2 years and no specialist referrals at all. The system denied her not because of fibro itself but because the records didn't show she was actually getting regular care from someone who treats it.

Did your cousin actually look up what that denial code meant before her lawyer had to catch it?
