Switched to wax chain lube a year ago and never looked back
I used to swear by that wet lube in the yellow bottle... put it on every weekend after washing my bike. Then I moved to Portland last summer and the road grit was eating my drivetrain in like 300 miles. A guy at the shop said try wax. Now I do a hot wax dip once a month and my chain lasts 3 times longer. No more black gunk on my pants either. Anyone else make the switch and find it worth the extra setup time?

Gotta admit I was a total wet lube loyalist for years, thought wax was overhyped nonsense. Then I did a proper hot wax dip and realized my chain actually stays clean for like 500 miles now instead of turning into a black sludge magnet after one wet ride. Totally worth the little bit of extra effort when I really look at how much longer everything lasts.

Started hot wax dipping last winter after watching a buddy's chain outlast mine by almost a thousand miles. @margaretramirez you nailed it about staying clean way longer, I used to scrub black gunk off my cassette every few weeks and now it stays looking new. The only downside is I turned my kitchen into a mini wax factory and my wife found the slow cooker I use for the wax and gave me that look. She asked if I was making candles or trying to lube up the whole house. I had to explain that yes, I am dipping bike chains in the same pot we used for chili last fall. She still gives me side eye every time I set it up but she cant argue with how quiet my drivetrain is now.
