The day I figured out my hidden cam placement was obvious

Been hiding a cheap pinhole camera in a smoke detector for years. Thought I was slick. Then my buddy came over, looked right at it, and said 'you know that model doesn't have an LED, right?' Felt like an idiot. Turned out I had it in the only spot where the ceiling paint was mismatched. Anyone else get called out on a rookie mistake like that?

Did you try swapping the cover with one from a different detector in the house so the paint mismatch blends in with the others?

That's assuming I want to match the other paint disasters, not stand out like a proud sore thumb.

...and that's EXACTLY why I painted my front door bright PURPLE last summer. The whole neighborhood went with some beige-gray neutral, and my wife said I was being childish. But you know what? Every delivery guy comments on it. Even the mailman said it's the only house he can find without checking the GPS. I say if you're gonna have a mismatched smoke detector, OWN it. Make it the conversation piece of your hallway.
