TIL my $15 nanny cam from Amazon picked up my neighbor's cat sneaking into my house through the dog door.

Spent 20 bucks on a cheap micro SD card to go with it, and now I know Mittens has been eating my cat's food for three months - anyone else catch something weird on their budget cameras?

Flip that SD card to continuous recording if you haven't already. I had the same thing happen with a camera I put in my garage to check on my tools, ended up catching footage of a raccoon that had figured out how to open the latch on my trash can. That little $12 Wyze cam saved me a ton of cleanup time once I saw its routine. Might be worth seeing if Mittens has a buddy coming with her too, since cats can be sneaky like that.

Wyze cams actually record to the cloud for free, so you don't need a continuous SD card unless you want longer playback. That raccoon trick is wild though, animals are way smarter than we give them credit for. Mittens probably has a whole crew waiting outside for her signal.

Whoa slow down there lol it's just a cat coming home at night. I get that people love their pets but setting up surveillance cameras to track Mittens' every move seems a bit extra. Like unless she's bringing home dead birds or scratching up the neighbors' cars who cares if she has a raccoon buddy. Not everything needs to be a whole investigation you know. If she's fed and not getting into trouble I'd just let her do her thing. Maybe save the detective work for when something actually goes wrong instead of overthinking every little thing.

I read somewhere that cats actually have a much bigger territory than people realize, like some outdoor cats will roam a mile or more from home during the night. So Mittens probably has a whole social life going on out there that you don't see during the day. The raccoon buddy thing isn't that unusual either, I remember a nature documentary where they showed cats and raccoons living together peacefully in parks and such. Setting up a camera to know when she gets home is just common sense, especially if she's older or has health problems. My neighbor's cat went missing for three days and they had no idea where to even start looking.
