My hidden camera rig from 2012 vs today... night and day difference
Back in 2012 I built a fake smoke detector camera using a cheap board cam and a DVR from RadioShack. That thing had maybe 480p resolution and the IR LEDs barely lit up 3 feet. I just set up a new one using a Wyze v3 guts stuffed into a old thermostat shell and the difference in quality is insane. What stuff did you guys run back in the day that seems primitive now compared to your current builds?

Did that Wyze setup actually have better night vision or is it just the resolution boost?

Man that Wyze v3 is legit. I swapped out my old v2 for one last month and the difference at night is honestly night and day. The v3 has a starlight sensor thing that picks up way more detail in low light, not just a resolution bump. I have it pointed at my driveway and I can actually make out license plates now at 2am where the v2 was just a blurry shape. Your mileage may vary based on how much ambient light you have, but for me it was a huge upgrade.

Hang on, isn't the v3 actually a different sensor too, not just a resolution bump? The starlight sensor is the big deal, it's way more sensitive in the dark than the v2. That's why you see more detail, not just because the pixels are sharper.
