The time I stopped using pre-mixed mud on big jobs
Used to swear by the pre-mixed buckets of joint compound for everything. Then last summer I did a 2,500 square foot basement in Cleveland and went through 12 buckets in three days. My back was killing me and the mud was way too soft for taping. Switched to 20-minute setting mud and a paddle mixer around month two of that year. Now I only use pre-mixed for small patch work. Anyone else find setting mud saves time on larger projects?

Started noticing the same thing with other stuff too. Like how they sell pre-sharpened pencils but you're better off buying a regular pack and a sharpener.

Right. Pre-sharpened pencils are a total scam. The tips break off before you even get to use them half the time. Plus half the pack is usually just sharpened down to a nub anyway. A $1 sharpener and a box of regular pencils lasts way longer and gives you control over the point. Same deal with pre-shredded cheese. Costs more, gets clumpy, and they coat it in cellulose so it doesn't melt right. A block of cheddar and a grater beats it every time.
