I used to think all wire nuts were basically the same, but a job in a 1920s house changed my mind

For years, I'd just grab whatever cheap yellow or red nuts were in the truck. Then, about three years ago, I was rewiring a whole floor in an old Seattle craftsman. The original cloth wire was brittle, and my usual nuts kept slipping off or cracking. I switched to the tan Ideal Wing-Nuts for that job because they were gentler. The difference in grip and how they seated on that old wire was huge. Now I keep a few different types on hand for specific situations. Anyone else find themselves using more than one kind of connector depending on the wire age?

My buddy had a similar nightmare with old cloth wire, but those tan wing-nuts saved his job too.

Three years on that same old wiring sounds like a nightmare!

Old systems always take longer to fix than you think.
