Old master electrician told me I was stripping too much jacket on MC cable
He was walking by my job site last month and stopped to watch me. Said I was leaving 3/4 inch of jacket exposed past the connector. Told me it's a fire risk if the cable gets pinched. I always did it that way because that's how my first foreman showed me. Now I cut it back to maybe 1/4 inch. Anyone else get called out on something that simple after years of doing it wrong?

Guess I've been giving my MC cable a little too much breathing room, just like I give my belly after Thanksgiving dinner.

Not sure it's that deep man. You can leave a little extra slack in MC and it's not gonna start a fire or anything. I see guys do it all the time and the inspectors barely even glance at it unless it's super loose. Now if you're leaving like 6 inches of droop between straps then yeah maybe tighten up. But a little belly after Thanksgiving dinner is totally fine in my book.
