Whoa, that makes so much sense... I saw a skincare video a while back that talked about this. The person said your skin can pump out extra oil to try and make up for a lack of water. It's like your skin is freaking out and over-correcting. I know someone who used all these harsh products for oily skin and it just got worse, then they tried a simple moisturizer and it calmed right down. Makes you rethink your whole routine.

Doubt it's that big of a deal for most people. Sounds like a marketing thing to sell more products.

Yeah @sean854, my dermatologist said the same thing about dehydrated skin overproducing oil.
