Rant: That 'budget' post hole digger cost me a whole day
I grabbed a cheap manual digger for a small backyard job in Springfield last week, thinking I'd save $80 over renting a power auger. The ground was way harder than it looked (full of old roots and rocks) and I spent over 8 hours fighting with it, barely getting three holes done. My back is killing me and I lost a full day's pay on another job. Anyone have a decent rental spot they trust for tougher soil?

Yeah, that "full of old roots and rocks" part is the killer. I tried to save money on a fence project last year and hit the same wall. I ended up going to Ace Hardware on Glenstone to rent a gas auger. It was like forty bucks for four hours and chewed right through the hard clay and small roots I had. Got all my holes done in under an hour.

Ugh, I learned that lesson the hard way too.

Remember when we all thought a shovel was enough? That auger rental is a total game changer.
