Compared throwing straps vs. ratchet straps for my flatbed loads and the difference in time was huge
Switched to throw straps for my lumber hauls out of Portland last month and I'm saving about 20 minutes per load, but has anyone had issues with them slipping on shorter runs?
Figure out how many miles you actually drive a day before worrying. 20 minutes at 30 mph is way different than 20 minutes at 55 mph, especially if you're hauling weight. Short runs can mess with your engine temps if they never get fully warmed up though, that's a real thing nobody talks about. How much time does your truck spend idling while loading or waiting, that's the bigger question.
Is idling really that big of a deal though? I mean, modern trucks are built for it, they have sensors and everything to handle sitting there running. If you're worried about engine temps on short runs, you can always just let it warm up in the driveway for five minutes before you even start driving. That cold start is what does the damage, not the actual short trip once everything's already at operating temp. Plus, thinking about it, most people overthink this whole warm-up cycle thing. The oil companies have made that stuff way better than it used to be, so a little short run here and there probably isn't the end of the world for your truck.
