Back when green finance chats let you say anything without fear

It felt like every opinion on carbon taxes got a fair hearing. Now, big platforms shut down talks they don't like. Kinda miss the chaos of those early days.

I remember Reddit's green finance threads back in 2015. They did have more wild talks, but even then, mods would step in for clear spam or hate. Today's big platforms face real pressure from laws and public pushback on climate claims. It's not just about shutting down talks they don't like, but managing legal risks. I get missing the free-wheeling days, but some structure probably helps keep things factual.

Ever think it was just over-moderation? The legal risk angle actually makes sense now.

Yeah, the legal risk thing the_kevin mentioned is spot on... I used to love those old green finance threads where every idea got thrown out there. Like @elliotm57 pointed out, it feels like over-moderation has taken over. I remember arguing about tree planting schemes for hours without anyone calling it fake news. Now, if you step slightly out of line, the whole thread gets locked. It's a shame... the best talks came from that messy back-and-forth.

Managing legal risks" makes sense but it still kills good talks.
