Hit 200,000 miles on my old Honda last Thursday

I was just driving to work on Chapman Ave when the odometer rolled over to 200,000. It felt like a weird milestone because I bought that car for $800 five years ago with 150k on it. Has anyone else hit a random round number on something that caught you off guard?

Wait did you buy it from a person or a dealer? I'm curious what kind of shape the body was in for $800 back then. My cousin got a similar deal on an old Corolla and it turned out to be a total rust bucket after a year. But Hondas are tough, I've heard stories of them lasting forever if you keep up with oil changes. Were you planning on keeping it until it dies or did this just happen randomly?

Yeah but honestly $800 for ANY running Honda is a steal even if the body looks rough. People WAY overthink these old cars. You fix the mechanicals and they go forever. Oil changes are key but even then I've seen neglected ones keep chugging. Your cousin's Corolla rusting out wasn't about the deal - that's just bad luck with a car from a salty area. Hondas from that era are built different, the frames hold up better than people give them credit for. If you change the timing belt on schedule that little car will outlive the buyer. Random breakdowns happen with ANY car that age, it's not a sign the whole thing is junk.
