Pro tip: My grandma's stories of neighborhood watch make me think safety will all be drones and cameras soon.

We had real community lookouts, but future safety might just be tech doing the job.

Well, I see it differently. My elderly neighbor actually finds comfort in the new doorbell cameras since she lives alone, and @charles122 makes a good point that cameras alone don't stop crime. The tech can be a helpful tool for people who feel cut off, not just a replacement for knowing folks.

Tracked by some company's algorithm" is just creepy.

I read some studies that found more cameras don't always mean less crime, @patricia262. It just feels like we're trading one problem for another.

You mentioned "real community lookouts" and that got me thinking. I mean, is the tech actually making us safer or just making us feel watched while we become less connected? It seems like we're trading knowing our neighbors for being tracked by some company's algorithm. Idk, maybe it's just me but that feels like a big loss, even if the drones work. Do you think that kind of safety is worth the trade-off?
