Bought a smart scale last month and the data is stressing me out

I got one of those scales that tracks body fat and muscle mass, thinking it would help me stay healthy. Last week, it said my body fat jumped 2% even though my weight stayed the same, which totally freaked me out. My friend says these scales are notoriously inaccurate and I should just trust how my clothes fit. But part of me feels like having any number, even a flawed one, is better than guessing. Has anyone else had their smart scale give them weird readings that messed with their head?

My old Fitbit scale did that same thing, it would show my body fat swinging 3% day to day. I agree with @jadej50, the weight number is the only part that's ever been reliable for me. I finally tossed it and just use a basic scale now.

Wait, your body fat reading changed by 3% in a single day? That's wild. I had a similar issue and it makes you wonder how they even come up with those numbers. I completely agree with what @jadej50 said about focusing on how your clothes fit instead of that unreliable data. It's so frustrating when a fancy gadget can't do the one job it's supposed to do. Good call on going back to a simple scale.

My Withings scale did that for a solid month. Honestly, I started just looking at the weight and ignoring the body fat percentage because it was all over the place. Tbh, your friend is right about trusting how your clothes feel.
