In my experience, public comments on biotech projects often get ignored. But last week, our neighborhood group sent a letter questioning the ethics of a mosquito gene drive trial. The review board delayed their decision to ask for more community feedback, which is a rare move. Your mileage may vary, but I see this as a good step toward more careful oversight.

Nice to see public pushback actually work for once. We managed to stall a local zoning change last year after flooding the council with emails. It feels like a miracle when they actually listen.

Seriously, it shouldn't feel like a miracle when they do their jobs. Wish that kind of pushback worked on the bigger stuff, too.
