Always rolled my eyes at the 'buy in bulk' advice for saving money

Then I actually did the math on toilet paper at Costco last month and realized I'm saving $0.03 per roll compared to the grocery store. Anyone else find a specific bulk item that actually makes a dent in your budget?

Wait, did you actually track how much TP you use per month too?

@karenb97 I did track my TP usage for a couple months and was surprised how fast we go through the big packs from Costco. My real bulk win was laundry detergent though. I get the giant jug at Sam's Club and it works out to like $0.08 per load compared to $0.15 at the regular store. Plus I don't run out every two weeks which is worth something too.

@karenb97 brings up a good point about tracking usage, but I think the savings are still real even if you don't track every sheet. I have a family of five and we go through a LOT of toilet paper. The real GAME CHANGER for me was paper towels. I save like $0.50 per roll at Costco compared to the grocery store, and we use those things like crazy. Plus, buying in bulk means I don't have to run to the store every week for stuff, which SAVES me gas and time. Honestly, the math works out better than people give it credit for. I used to roll my eyes too, but now I'm a believer in bulk for the things you actually use a lot of.
