Forgot to cancel a free trial on my streaming account and got hit with $85 for 6 months of a service I never used
Was checking my bank statement last month and saw this charge from GoStream (or whatever theyre called). I signed up for a 30 day free trial back in february to watch some documentary and totally spaced on canceling it. Called their support line and told them I never even logged in after the first week. They refunded 3 months worth but said the other 3 were my fault. Ended up paying like $42 for that dumb documentary. Anyone have luck getting full refunds on stuff like this without having to fight for it?

Wait, did you call your bank and ask them to do a chargeback for the whole thing? I had basically the same thing happen with a meal kit service a few months back. I forgot to cancel after the first box and got charged for like four months of stuff I never touched. The company only wanted to refund half too, so I just called my credit card company instead and explained the situation. They did a full chargeback no questions asked, and the service actually ended up sending me a nasty email about it but I didnt care. You might burn a bridge with GoStream if you ever want to use them again, but honestly getting your money back is worth it. Plus if you never even used the service after the first week, thats on them for not making the cancellation process easier in my opinion.

Man, I totally used to be the kind of person who'd just eat the loss and not want to cause a fuss... but hearing how you just called your bank and got it sorted that easy is making me rethink everything. I always figured chargebacks were some big hassle or would get me in trouble, but you're right that the company should make it easier to cancel in the first place. Definitely gonna keep this in my back pocket next time a company tries to pull that half refund nonsense on me.

Yeah "half refund nonsense" really hit home, I always just took the L before but that changes things.
