My buddy at work made me rethink my whole credit card approach

I was bragging to my friend Dave about my cash back card that gives 2% on everything. He just goes 'cool, but you aware you're leaving $50 a month on the table by not rotating category cards?' That hit different cause I do spend about $400 on groceries and $200 on gas each month. So I looked into it and found a card that does 5% on rotating categories for $0 annual fee. Has anyone else found a way to stack multiple cards without losing track of due dates?

Forgot to pay a bill once and spent three hours on hold with the bank, so I totally get the fear. Now I set up automatic payments on every card and just check the apps every Sunday morning while I drink my coffee. I actually keep a little sticky note on my fridge listing which card pays what percentage that quarter. Works better than my brain does, which is a low bar.

That sticky note idea is pretty solid, but rotating category cards usually only get 5% up to a spending cap each quarter, not on your whole grocery bill. So you might not be stacking as much as you think.

That "usually only get 5% up to a spending cap each quarter" part is key. So how do you even track when you're getting close to that cap? Do you just guess and hope you don't go over, or do you check your account every single time you swipe? Because I'd imagine accidentally hitting the cap halfway through the quarter would make the whole sticky note system useless for the rest of the time. Seems like a lot of work for what might end up being a few bucks back in your pocket.
