That one time a guy at the Dunwoody hardware store fixed my whole patio

I was at the Dunwoody Ace Hardware last Saturday trying to figure out why my patio pavers kept shifting. An older guy named Greg who works in the lumber aisle saw me staring at the bags of sand and just walked over. He told me to ditch the polymeric sand and use a base of crushed granite instead, said it locks everything in place better. I spent $45 on a bag and now my pavers haven't budged in two months. Has anyone else had luck with that stuff on a sloped yard?

And see that's exactly what bugs me about modern home improvement, everyone wants a magic powder or a spray foam shortcut but Greg just gave him real fundamentals. It's like people forget that plain old physics and proper layers are what actually make things hold up over time. I've watched too many neighbors waste money on fancy sealants and miracle cures that peel after one winter, meanwhile a guy who's been working lumber for thirty years just says "use crushed rock" and boom problem solved for a fraction of the cost. We got so obsessed with convenience and quick fixes that we lost the common sense stuff that's been working forever. Greg's probably saved more people money than half the contractors in that town just by telling them to stop overcomplicating it.

Greg over at that Dunwoody Ace is the real deal for sure. He knows his stuff. Crushed granite is solid advice for a slope because it actually locks together instead of just filling gaps. Combine it with some geotextile fabric underneath and you can pretty much forget about shifting for years.

Man that's seriously good to hear. I've had some bad luck with contractors who just throw down gravel and call it a day, then it's all washed out by the next spring. Greg sounds like one of those old school guys who actually cares about doing it right. Crushed granite and geotextile is the kind of fix you only learn from experience, not from some YouTube video. I feel like that combo would save me a ton of headaches down the road. Good for you for finding someone who knows what they're doing.
