That $200 antique auger I bought for fence post digging
Bought a 1920s two-man auger at an estate sale in rural Ohio thinking it'd save me time versus renting a gas unit. After three days of back-breaking hand cranking through clay soil, I paid a neighbor $150 to finish the job with his tractor.

Read some old-timer say these things are useless in clay. Shoulda listened.

Yeah, but didn't you feel that weird mix of pride and regret after? I bet your arms were screaming by day two. Clay soil is basically concrete when it's dry, no antique tool is ready for that. At least you got a cool wall hanger out of it though. What did you do with the auger after all that?
