Why does nobody talk about the city worker who saved my dog with a $4 tool?

Last month my golden retriever got her head stuck in a metal fence near the park on Elm Street. I was panicking, calling 911, but this city maintenance guy named Dave walked over from his truck with a basic bolt cutter. He snipped the bar in like 10 seconds and told me he does this kind of thing twice a week because nobody reports broken fences. Has anyone else had a random worker help them out in a way that made you wonder why the news never covers stuff like this?

Honestly man I used to be one of those guys that rolled my eyes at feel good stories. Thought they were just fluff and the real problems were what mattered. But after reading this I gotta admit it changed my mind. My wife sent me a similar story about a sanitation worker who found a wedding ring in a trash pile and tracked the owner down through Facebook. It's not just about the rescue itself it's the fact that these people do this stuff daily and get zero recognition. Dave probably saved your dogs life and he gets paid the same whether he does that or not. That kind of thing makes me think twice about what gets called news versus what actually helps people.

Oh man, that is such a great story. I had a similar thing happen when my cat got stuck up this super tall tree near my apartment. A guy from the power company was just driving by and saw me freaking out. He had one of those long pole things with a hook on the end, and he managed to guide my cat down in like five minutes. Wouldn't even take the 20 bucks I tried to give him. You're right, way too many regular people doing real good stuff that nobody ever puts on the news.

My neighbor's kid once climbed a fence to grab my little dog when she slipped her collar near a busy road. I was in the yard calling her name and he just jumped over without even thinking about it. The fence was pretty high too, like maybe six feet with those pointy bars on top. @max_hernandez27 you nailed it with that point about these people doing this stuff daily. That kid was probably ten years old and he didn't hesitate for a second. Nobody ever heard about it except me and his mom but I still think about it every time I walk past that fence.
