Rant: Spent $400 on a 'track-ready' brake kit and it was a pile of junk

Put those cheap slotted rotors on my Miata before a day at Laguna Seca and they cracked after 3 laps. Anyone else get burned by those budget brake kits from eBay?

My 89 Bronco II did that same thing once on the way to pick up pizza. I was maybe two blocks from the shop when I smelled that burned brake dust smell and felt the pedal go soft. Had to coast into the parking lot and let everything cool down for a good 20 minutes before I could even think about driving home. That was the day I learned not to ride the brakes down a long hill even if you're in a hurry. Ended up having to replace the whole front set, plus the rotors were warped from the heat.

Melting pads" usually means the friction material cooked off, not the actual pad backing.
