Stumbled into that tiny bookstore on 5th and noticed their card catalog is still in use

I mean, I went in to kill 15 minutes before my shift and ended up spending an hour just flipping through the little drawer cards. They had a section of local cookbooks from the 80s that nobody probably looks at but it felt like a hidden treasure. Has anyone else found a random public spot that still runs on old school systems like that?

Beth's right about the handwriting thing. That personal touch is gone now. Everything's sanitized and digital. You can tell when the librarian had a neat handwriting style versus someone who just scribbled it in. Makes you wonder who they were. I like that old systems force you to slow down a bit. No instant gratification. Just you and a drawer full of little cards that someone else touched decades ago.

I used to think card catalogs were just outdated clutter until I found one in a local library annex last month. The handwriting on the old index cards had this personal feel to it, like someone actually cared about the books they were filing away. Maybe it's just me but there's something comforting about a system that doesn't need wifi or batteries.
