My boss chewed me out for a simple fix I kept missing
I was doing drain cleaning at this house off Elm Street last Tuesday, and my boss pulled me aside after. He said I was wasting time by not checking the main line cleanout first before messing with the kitchen sink. I argued back at first, but he showed me how I could've saved 20 minutes on that job alone. Now I always pop that cap off before I do anything else, and I'm finishing jobs way faster. Has anyone else had a senior guy call them out on something that actually made them better?

Man that sucks getting called out like that, but sounds like he was actually trying to help you get faster? I had a senior tech show me I was overcomplicating basic cable runs and it saved me so much time later lmao.

Only thing I wonder about is whether that senior tech ever took the time to explain why he was showing you the shortcut, or just told you to do it his way. My worry is that some of these older workers have good intentions but forget that teaching someone the reasoning behind a method matters more than just the result. Lily's point about pride is real, but it cuts both ways - sometimes the younger person needs to be humble enough to ask, and the older person needs to be patient enough to explain.

Older folks just see shortcuts we're too proud to notice yet.
