Overheard at a coffee shop that the new RoboCop show is better than the movie

I was grabbing a latte yesterday and two dudes were arguing if the new RoboCop series on Prime is worth watching. One guy said it actually has character development unlike the original which is just cheesy action. Ive only seen the old movie a few times but now Im curious to check the show out. Has anyone here watched both and can tell me if the reboot really holds up better?

The old movie was cheesy on purpose, that's what made it great. These new shows try so hard to be serious and deep they just end up boring.

Right, because nothing says "character development" like a robot cop who still can't crack a smile. @dixon.james has a point though, the old movie knew exactly what it was, cheesy one-liners and all. That show probably has 50 minutes of brooding and 10 minutes of actual action, bet the coffee shop guys were wearing ironic t-shirts while they argued.

@dixon.james I used to think the exact same way honestly. I was one of those people who said the old movie was perfect just for being cheesy action and nothing more. But I binged the new show last weekend and it actually changed my mind lmao. The character development is legitimately good and it makes the action scenes hit way harder because you actually care about what happens to the people involved. I still love the original for what it is but the show surprised me big time lol.
