Shoutout to my washing machine that flooded the kitchen last Saturday

I woke up to an inch of water on my linoleum floor around 7 AM. The hose behind the machine just split open after 4 years of use, no warning at all. I spent the next 3 hours shop-vaccing and moving the fridge to dry everything out. Called a repair guy who said the rubber had dry rot from being near the dryer vent. Anyone else have a major appliance fail in a stupid way like this?

Flooded my own kitchen last winter when the ice maker line on my fridge gave out. Little pinhole leak that sprayed water behind the appliance for God knows how long before I noticed the warped floorboards. Ended up having to tear out half the laminate and patch it with leftover scraps from the previous owner. My place still looks like a bad DIY show from 2008. At least your linoleum probably dried out okay.

My sister's front load washer died the exact same way last spring, rubber hose split while she was at work. Honestly @west.casey your ice maker story is worse though, I bet that pinhole leak was silent for weeks. Tbh I used to think those braided steel hoses were just a scam to get people to spend more money at the hardware store. Ngl after shop-vaccing my kitchen floor at 7am I went straight to Home Depot and bought two of them for the washer and one for the fridge. That whole experience completely changed my mind about spending an extra 15 bucks on something that sits behind an appliance.

Worth every penny honestly. I replaced all my washing machine hoses with braided steel ones after a buddy's place flooded and his insurance wouldn't cover it because they said the rubber hose was "normal wear and tear." Threw one on the dishwasher too while I was at it. The fridge line is the one people always forget about though. If you've got an ice maker definitely swap that little plastic line out for a braided one, they sell kits with the right fittings for like 12 bucks. Saves you from waking up to that warped floorboard surprise.
