Wait, have you ever actually sat through a 3-minute video that felt totally legit only to look up and realize you've been staring at your phone like a complete idiot for half an hour? That was me last week with some "hack" about using a sock to clean your dryer vent. I was literally nodding along, thinking "this guy's a genius" until my wife walked by and pointed out the guy was clearly standing in front of a green screen. Now I've got this stupid rule where if the thumbnail has a big red arrow or the person's face is making that shocked expression, I just scroll past it.

Haha the "shocked face with red arrow" rule is honestly smart, I've got a similar one where if the video starts with "you won't believe this" I already know I'm gonna believe it anyway. I spent a solid half hour last week watching a guy "fix" a cracked phone screen with just toothpaste and a blow dryer before I realized it was a prank channel. Thought I was being all street smart about internet scams but nope, I'm just a sucker with a clean conscience and a dirty phone screen.

Funny you say "got completely fooled" because I used to be one of those people who thought I'd never fall for internet crap like that. Thought I was too smart for it, you know? Then a buddy sent me some video about a guy hiding in a Costco overnight and I was halfway to believing it before I realized it was obviously fake. Made me rethink how easy it is to get caught up in a good story if it's told well enough. Now I double check everything, even stuff that seems obvious.
