Talked myself out of a smart thermostat after reading the fine print

I was all set to buy one of those Nest things until I read that it tracks when you're home and sends that data to Google for targeted ads. Decided to just program my old one manually, saved $250 and my privacy. Anyone else bail on a smart home gadget after digging into the terms?

Agree with you @alicemurphy actually used to think the $250 was worth it for the health tracking but then I realized theyre just selling your data to insurance companies and advertisers. Once I read their privacy policy more carefully it changed my mind completely. Youre basically paying them to monetize your bathroom schedule and sleep patterns. Your mileage may vary but I decided my privacy is worth more than a slightly fancier health dashboard.

Lmao "monetize your bathroom schedule" is crazy but also probably accurate @alicemurphy. Next thing you know they'll be selling your tooth brushing data to toothpaste companies.
