inUnpopular opinion: I found out most false alarms come from user error, not gear failure
Used to think gear was the main problem, but seeing stats like that makes you reconsider.

inBack in 2010 I thought those online booking apps were just a fad for fancy salons.
Wait, you were getting ghosted TWICE a day on a paper book? That's brutal, @jakewhite. The automatic reminder thing is such a simple fix for that. It really does just come down to what actually works for your day.

inHand filing a bolt action vs. today's drop-in parts
The real loss is the problem solving. You learn why a round hangs up, not just that it does. You figure out if it's the extractor, the feed ramp, the magazine. That's knowledge you can't get from a drop-in part. It turns a jam into a puzzle instead of a call to customer service.

inMy cousin swore his metal detector was junk after one beach trip, but I found a 1920s silver dollar in my backyard with it.
Exactly. You see it all the time. People buy a decent machine, run it on factory settings in a nail-filled park, then blame the beeps. My cousin did that. Had the discrimination set to ignore iron but left sensitivity at max near an old fence. Sounded like a robot having a fit. Took him a year to learn that lower sensitivity and a slow sweep would actually find the good stuff under the trash.
