Just had a customer in a small town ask me to keep the old keypad up next to the new one
I was finishing a panel swap in this older house in Millerton last week. The lady who lived there, maybe in her 70s, saw me packing up the old keypad. She asked if I could just leave it on the wall, not hooked up, right beside the new touchscreen. She said, 'My husband put that one in thirty years ago. I just like seeing it there.' I screwed the old plastic box back on the wall for her. It's funny how a simple piece of tech can mean so much to someone. Anyone else run into a request like that?

It's just a keypad on a wall. Why do people get so attached to old plastic boxes? It's not like it's a photo or a piece of jewelry. Doesn't it just collect dust and look messy next to the new one?

Honestly it's about the memories tied to the old tech for me.

My dad's old flip phone still has our fishing trip photos on it.
