Hot take: The 2018 Crunchyroll Expo panel on 'filler arcs' made me drop shows faster than ever

I was at the panel in San Jose where a director straight up said some filler exists just to sell more Blu-ray volumes, not to serve the story. Hearing that from a pro made me stop giving shows a 'three episode rule' if the pacing feels off. Now I bail after one bad episode if it feels like a cash grab. Anyone else get more picky after hearing something blunt like that?

Honestly can't believe they just said the quiet part out loud like that. @the_max is right, that's wild. Makes you wonder how many shows are just long ads for merch.

I always gave a show three episodes to find its feet, no matter what. Hearing that director in San Jose say some filler is just there to sell discs totally killed that habit for me. It made me look at slow pacing in a whole new way. Now if an episode feels pointless and padded, I'm out after just one. I can't unsee the cash grab once someone points it out that clearly.

Ngl hearing a director admit filler is for disc sales is actually crazy.

Wait they actually admitted that out loud at a panel? That's wild. No wonder you dropped the three episode rule.
