The Cedar Bluff excavation has me split on digging up artifacts versus saving the land
I helped out at the Cedar Bluff site last month where we uncovered old stone tools. One side says we must dig to save history before it's lost. The other side points out how the process can ruin plant life and leave garbage behind. I noticed broken ground and litter that really bothered me. How do you all see this balance?

Was all for digging until I saw the mess left behind.

My backyard excavation for a patio turned into a mud pit for months, so I feel the ruined plant life pain. But those old tools are pieces of history we can't just leave buried forever. We probably need a middle ground where sites get studied without looking like a construction zone afterwards.

My buddy’s land survey left these sad little flags everywhere for weeks.

So @shanef34, did they at least use colorful flags so your buddy's place looks like a sad little birthday party? I've seen those things left to fade until they're just sad plastic shreds caught in the weeds. Real nice touch for the whole "preserving history" vibe.
