Overheard a guy at Home Depot say duct tape fixes everything, then watched him struggle with a PVC pipe leak for 20 minutes

I was grabbing some sandpaper and this dude is telling his buddy how duct tape is all you need for plumbing repairs. He spent nearly half an hour trying to wrap tape around a wet pipe while water kept spraying out - has anyone else dealt with people giving confidently bad DIY advice at hardware stores?

Used to be a duct tape believer myself, thought it could fix anything around the house. Then I tried patching a garden hose with it and got soaked way worse than that Home Depot guy. Totally changed my mind after that. Now I tell people to just get a proper coupling or call a plumber for anything involving water pressure. Duct tape is great for stuff like loose wires or temporary fixes on dry surfaces but it's not magic. Watched a neighbor try to tape his gutters with it during a storm and it peeled off in like 10 minutes.

Five bucks says that neighbor knew it would fail but just didn't want to go to the hardware store. I've seen guys use duct tape on sprinkler lines and act surprised when it blows off after 3 minutes. Water pressure is no joke, it's like trying to hold back a river with a sticker. But honestly unless your house is flooding who really cares that much, just grab a new hose for 12 bucks and move on.

Watched myself try the same trick on a leaky bucket once, learned that lesson the wet way.
