The day I found out I'd been crimping D-sub pins wrong for 2 years

Was over at a buddy's bench in Denver watching him work and he casually goes 'you know those pins are supposed to click twice, right?' I'd been doing single crimps and then wondering why half my harnesses had intermittent shorts. Anyone else had that moment where you realize you missed something super basic from day one?

That "supposed to click twice" part hit close to home. Had a buddy who spent a whole year doing single crimps on his aviation connectors, swore his technique was fine. He only figured it out when his radio kept cutting out during taxi tests.

Dude, that's rough. Bet he was so frustrated when he found out.

Wonder if that's why a lot of connector failures in older aircraft get blamed on "vibration" when it's really just a user error that never got caught.
