Unpopular opinion: Passing on a shady service contract was a win
Tbh, I just said no to a firm that wanted me to fudge some numbers in their audit report. It was a scary move, but my small team stood by me and it felt right.

How do you shake off that nervous energy after standing your ground? In my experience, it helps to remind yourself why you said no, like @graceowens mentioned about the feeling hanging around. It gets easier each time, and having your team back you up makes a huge difference.

You said it was a scary move, and man do I get that. My version of standing my ground usually involves sweating through my shirt and my voice doing that weird shaky thing. But for real, turning down that kind of work is such a relief once the panic wears off. It's like you get to keep the part of your brain that lets you sleep at night. Plus having your team back you up must have made all the difference. How long did it take for the "oh crap what did I just do" feeling to finally go away?

That relief you feel might just be you dodging the growth that comes from doing hard things.
