Vent: My buddy swore The Room was a masterpiece so I hyped it up for a month then realized he was trolling me
I spent 4 hours convincing my girlfriend to watch it with me and by the time Tommy Wiseau threw that football she was giving me the death stare, has anyone else been set up by a friend claiming a bad movie is actually good?

Call it a rite of passage for anyone who's ever trusted a friend's taste in movies. We've all got that one buddy who thinks they're a comedy genius by setting you up to watch something like Birdemic or The Last Airbender. The real joke isn't the movie itself, it's watching your own face slowly realize you've been played. It's almost like a trust fall, except the floor is made of terrible dialogue and the fall is your evening gone forever. Maybe the bigger pattern here is that some people just get a weird kick out of being the only one in on the joke, even if it means you end up sitting through a football tossing scene that never ends.

Agree with @max223 on this one. You guys are overthinking it. I've sat through The Room twice now. First time I thought my buddy lost his mind. Second time I just laughed at the whole thing. It's not that deep. Either you enjoy the train wreck or you don't. Nobody's betraying your trust over a bad movie pick.

Three viewings of The Room later and I'm still not sure if my buddy was being ironic or if he genuinely thinks it's a masterpiece. Is it really that deep though coop? Seems like a lot of hand wringing over something that's just a bad movie night. You either laugh about it or you don't, it's not some profound betrayal of trust. Sometimes a friend just has terrible taste and wants company.
