Got booted from a HVAC forum for posting this simple AC fix

I shared a trick where you rinse your outdoor condenser coils with a garden hose once a year. The mods said it was 'dangerous advice' because you might get shocked or bend the fins. I did it on my own unit last June and it dropped my electric bill by $35 that month. Has anyone else gotten flak for sharing basic maintenance tips that actually work?

I actually read a post from an hvac guy on another forum who said he's been rinsing his own coils for 15 years without ever getting shocked or bending anything. He pointed out that most units have a shut-off switch right next to them, and if you're really worried you can just flip that first. Said the real danger is letting the coils get caked with dirt and grass clippings, which makes the compressor run way harder and can actually fry it over time lol.

Wait, isn't that the truth though? It feels like so many of these "rules" are just them trying to cover their own behinds instead of actually helping us out. I get that they have to protect themselves from lawsuits and all, but it's frustrating when common sense stuff like cleaning your own coils gets totally shut down. Logan's got a good point too, letting dirt build up is way more of a real risk than anything else in my book. Makes you wonder how much money we've all wasted on service calls for stuff we could've done ourselves.
